Google’s $15B America-India Connect Initiative Boosts Digital Infrastructure, GOOGL Shares Rise
Google parent Alphabet (GOOGL) saw its shares climb modestly on Tuesday after unveiling a $15 billion digital infrastructure initiative bridging the US and India. The America-India Connect project will establish new subsea cable routes and fiber pathways to strengthen India's network resilience while expanding Google's cloud and AI capabilities globally.
A new Visakhapatnam subsea gateway will serve as the linchpin, connecting India to Singapore, South Africa, and Australia through three additional undersea corridors. These routes deliberately trace historic maritime trade paths, modernizing centuries-old economic connections for the digital age.
The initiative includes partnerships with Indian authorities to enhance digital skills training and AI adoption. By diversifying internet pathways and improving affordability, Google aims to catalyze economic growth across India's burgeoning tech ecosystem.
